In the beginning: The day i found Librivox.org was one of the happiest days of my life. At Librivox thousands of readers donate their time and talents to recording works from the Public Domain. And they do it because they enjoy reading aloud, and they believe in making old literature available to everyone who loves it.
All the Classics are there. Some of the best books ever written! FREE to download! I started out in this business by recording books for Librivox, and i'm still making recordings for them when i have the time. The folks over there are so helpful, so noncritical, and they provide so much instructional material. If you are interested in getting into the audiobook recording field, i highly recommend you cut your chops recording for Librivox. One of my early recordings for Librivox was a chapter called "Prefaces", from the book Curiosities of Literature Volume 1 by Isaac D'israeli (pub. 1881). Since this is my first blog post, it seemed appropriate to provide a short sound file from the beginning of my audiobook career, which happens to be about the beginnings of books (5min50sec). ~Lisa Reichert.
